Results of the meeting

In general all participants of the meeting agreed about the necessity and the chances of tight international cooperation of all specialists of Curculionoidea in the West Palearctic region in the near future!

The importance of a future cooperation with international nature protection organisations of the European Community was pointed out by Dr. Miguel A. Alonso-Zarazaga. The members of the CURCULIO-Institute are grateful to Dr. Alonso-Zarazaga offering the publication of his speech of the 13th October 2001 in the Weevil News to make this essential information and his new ideas available to all colleagues as soon as possible.

The members of the CURCULIO-Institute agreed to organize the next international meeting in October 2002 in Sicily (Italy).

Furthermore, due to the high number of specialists of Curculionoidea working and living in eastern Central Europe, it was decided to arrange a conference in October 2003 in either Dresden (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic) or Wroclaw (Poland). Until June 2002 the venue of the conference will be fixed.

Several colleagues from Italy and Spain announced the publication of contributions in the Weevil-News and the SNUDEBILLER in the course of the meeting.

Some participants asked for a more intensive and quicker communication via internet (e-mail). As a consequence of this request, the board of the CURCULIO-Institute would like to ask all members to use the full variety of opportunities offered on the homepage: www.curci.de
